I was blessed to be able to work with talented, creative women on this fun Editorial/Fashion photo shoot at The Photo Shop (previously located in Payson, UT). This was an AMAZING opportunity for me, as I had just been realizing the necessity for networking and really learning from other amazing people within my own creative community.
A week prior to this, I had attended my first ‘group/collaboration’ shoot–where I felt underappreciated, demeaned, and belittled. Not only did the other photographers treat me like I was an imbecile, they also set out to try and ‘beat me’ with what they capture with the company we were working for. I just about cried after that shoot.
I felt so defeated.
Before that, I had joined a different group on Facebook dedicated to improving, collaborating, and helping creatives, models, and photographers in Utah County–and when I joined I saw this event.
Just starting out, I knew I needed to suck up the anxiety of working and talking to new people and see if I could attend. Luckily enough, the group and event owners were just the people I needed to show me I have potential, especially after such a defeating experience the week prior.
At this meet-up I got to meet and work with three talented models (Kenzie, Chris, and Madi)–two of which I have been lucky enough to work with again a few times! They AMAZED me with their talent–all of them!
As well, I got to meet Stephen, the owner of The Photo Shop, and other fellow photographers Matt, Alyssa, Alejandro, Steve, and Antonio. They were all kind enough to explain lighting situations, let me observe how they work with models, get insight into how they compose photos, use their lenses, and overall just made me feel so welcome.
It was a stark contrast to just a week prior, where I felt like I was nothing. Here, the spark of creativity ignited and the thirst for learning was quenched.
