Take fashion, snow, and mix it with… downtown Logan? Yep, you heard right. When up in Logan, Utah I met up with aspiring model McKenzie W, and we decided to bring Utah fashion to the streets of Logan in the old downtown district.
McKenzie was such a doll to work with: not only did she have great posture and body position, but she had such a fun laugh and smile. She is not originally from the US, but she had just as much ambition to make her modeling dream come true. Eventually, she wanted to make it out to NYC to pursue modeling.
We were invited inside to shoot when a patron saw how cold we were. Somewhat awkwardly, we accepted and walked in the back of the Logan tabernacle. I wasn’t sure how appropriate it was to shoot in another individual’s religious space, but someone of that faith had invited us in and it was so cold from the snow that we went with it!
I had little space to work with between the stairs and the back door, but I was still able to position her on the stairs. Makenzie already had long legs, but from the angle and with my lens they were accentuated and I was not mad about that–every girl wants mile high legs!
Afterwards, we took to our originally planned location in the historic downtown Logan. Right as we started to shoot, the snow started to gently fall.
We pulled out the jacket, and took the pops of color from the store front with the brick and subtle grey of the snow clouds to pull together something a little different. Color, along with composition and posing, is what really adds a Utah lifestyle but high end fashion photography feeling that is still familiar.
We ended moving a little further down and by the time we finished my hands were red and McKenzie was shivering–but we both knew it was well worth it!
