Chocolate Photoshoot: Syrupy Fun as Part of a Sugar Editorial Series in Utah

I about died of heart eyes reading the message. Cas Bryn, model for this shoot, messaged our group and asked if we were okay with her pouring the chocolate syrup all over her.

I would never turn that down in a million years– so I knew this shoot was going to be good. And baby, DING DONG!

Backdrop Inspiration

The backdrop was super easy and fun! Makenzie found a fun chocolate shoot inspiration on Pinterest, that had chocolate hand prints on the wall. Now, we couldn’t do that in her rented apartment, nor could we pour syrup all over her carpet. So, we got a plastic shower curtain and attached it to the wall and floor. Then Makenzie took a plate full of syrup to the hand and made some fun prints on the shower curtain.

I would recommend that is if you want a super flat background with no wrinkles, either use a stand where you can pull the shower curtain tight, or purchase photography backdrop paper that you don’t mind ruining. We didn’t care about that, I usually don’t mind some of the texture or wrinkles in the background.

Let’s get Messy!

Of course, we had to bring sprinkles into play and we get cupcakes with sprinkles was the perfect combination for a photoshoot! The question was, how could we utilize both without one completely dominating the other?

The easiest way was to choose cupcake with frosting that would match rainbow sprinkles! I could then incorporate those colors into the lighting and time in both elements! We did have some other fun with the sprinkles though:

Orange, Pink, and Neutral Backdrops… OH MY!

I wanted to have some images that complimented the red strawberry. I didn’t want the red to be too powerful in too many I decided bringing in a pink/red gel to color the background and provide a pink side light on the model would be perfect!
